Telstra’s Darwin Connected 2018 Event was bigger and better than ever before

The Darwin Connected Event 2018 was hosted on 12th April at The Darwin Convention Centre. It was a full day event with 20 Sponsors and over 200 customers and staff attending.

Telstra has added more to their Annual Technology Event, Vantage, that occurs each September in Melbourne by adding local capital city versions across the country throughout the year. This brings innovative technology insights to customers that are in regional areas that may not have been able to attend Vantage.

This year, it was a combination of Enterprise and Government attendees, with the opening keynote by Deputy Chief Minister for ALP: Nicole Manison talking about the importance of investment into technology upgrades throughout regional NT.

The second keynote speaker was Karinda Gill from Abode New Homes. Karinda won 2017 NT Business Woman of the year, and is one of the founders of Abode New Homes along with her husband Justin. Karinda walked the audience through the journey of her life, from having children at an early age and then making the leap to move from Vic to NT in her early 20s with little money and only a caravan and her family.

Karinda’s mission statement in life is that “there are no problems, just challenges.” Karinda removed the term “problem” from her vocabulary early in her life. Once you hear the battles and challenges she has faced over the years, both within her family and also commercially, you can really see how and why Karinda is the inspirational Business Woman that she is today. Here is her keynote speech:

Along with Calibre One, the other Gold Sponsors of the event were Cisco, Teletrac Navman and Microsoft. Microsoft was a big hit for the day with the recent release of their Office 365 Calling platform which is exclusive to Telstra.

The service will be available for Telstra business customers in Australia from mid-2018, and supports Telstra calling plans from both Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams, the software giant’s chat-based Office 365 workspace, meaning users can access cloud collaboration and voice services from Telstra Calling for Office 365.

This product will work over any public internet connection, and revolutionises the traditional and current IP voice platforms Telstra support that require either physical lines, or SIP lines over a private IP connection.

Calibre One at Darwin Connected 2018

Calibre One’s stand this year had four core pillars of technology that we consider most important, Security, Connectivity, Cloud and Managed Services. We also had the pleasure of hosting at our stand Airbridge who are a partner of ours and also an integral component to providing enhanced connectivity to regional areas within Australia and overseas. Here is our interview with Doug Stephens, the founder of AirBridge:

Our CEO Steve then hosted a 30 min break out session on the four pillars above.

Overall, this was a fantastic event with a lot of important and exciting learnings, and we were so glad to be a part of it!
