You may have received a message from Microsoft yesterday, and if you did it likely means that you are still a Skype for Business Online customer, and will need to change over to Teams within the next 12 Months. Specifically, on July 31 2021.
Who will be affected by Skype for Business Shutting Down?
If your business is using the Skype Consumer Service, or a Skype for Business Server deployment, you will not be affected by this retirement. All other Skype for Business Online customers will not see any change in service until the retirement date. Then, you will lose your access altogether.
Additionally, Support for Audio Conferencing Providers (ACP) third party integrations into Skype for Business Online will continue through the end of service July 31, 2021.
What should you do if you’re still using Skype for Business Online?
As we had written in a previous post written one year ago almost to the day, when it was first announced that Skype for Business would be ending, we highly recommend transitioning onto Microsoft Teams well before the date of discontinuation.
Microsoft Teams is an application that is now a core part of most Office 365 subscriptions. Teams has the integrated messaging, meeting and calling capabilities, plus added features of creating “Team Groups” where files, folders, meeting notes and team conversations can be grouped in one location.
What’s even more exciting is that you can utilise Teams for Telstra Calling for Office 365, which is a cloud-based voice calling service for Microsoft Office 365, enabling a fully cloud business phone system (PBX) with Teams. This service allows you to make calls to landlines or mobiles from Microsoft Teams, helping you empower your people to work more effectively when and where they need to, and provide a consistent, intuitive experience every time.
