Malware is targeting at least 500K devices worldwide

Have you heard about Talos? Well, Talos is one of the leading-edge cyber threat intelligence team providing security solutions. This team underpins all Cisco products, one of the leaders in corporate networking.

They have been working for several months with public and private-sector threat intelligence partners and law enforcement regarding a new malware system called VPNFilter.

As a result of that research, they estimate that there are at least 500,000 infected devices in at least 54 countries. Some of the brands affected by this malware are Linksys, MikroTik, NETGEAR and TP-Link.

This malware allows the theft of website credentials and monitoring of SCADA protocols. And this does not finish here, the malware has a destructive capability that can render an infected device unusable.

If you have any of these devices I strongly suggest you update it to the latest version. Find the latest firmware, download and install it. And if it is too old, maybe it is time to change it.

The full report can be found here.

Be safe out there. Until next Malware Monday.
