Facebook: More than 10,000 Aussies Affected in Last Year’s Security Breach

Do you remember when I wrote this article about Facebook being fined as a consequence of a data breach?

Well, going back to September last year when hackers exploited three linked bugs to steal names and other contact information of more than 20 millions users worldwide.

As a consequence of the new Mandatory Data Breach Notification, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), Facebook had to provide a breakdown of the number of Australian users whose information may have been leaked. As a result, Facebook has revealed that the leak “may have” affected the personal information of up to 11,813 Australian users.

Some of those users affected may have contained the full name, email address and phone number.

Do you have a Facebook account? When was the last time you changed your password? If you don’t know, it may be time to change your password and re-check your security settings on Facebook to make sure you don’t have it open to the world.

And as always, be safe out there and until next Malware Monday.
